This month, I’ll be focusing on finger foods and appetizers in preparation for the Superbowl! These Apricot BBQ Kielbasa Appetizers are first on the list. They’re always a crowd pleaser making them perfect for game day. And luckily, they’re so easy that you can make a huge batch to cover all the guests that will surely be coming back for seconds and thirds. 😉
FLAVORFUL KIELBASA
I use kielbasa a lot in my household because it’s so easy to incorporate into recipes and it instantly gives your dish a boost of savory flavor. Because of its smoked and seasoned taste, kielbasa usually doesn’t need to be spruced up with extra ingredients. So, I kept it simple by making a 2-ingredient glaze that consists of apricot preserves and BBQ sauce. You’ll get so many major flavors in one bite: sweetness from the apricots, spice from the BBQ sauce, and salty goodness from the kielbasa.
FRYING THE KIELBASA
Before coating the kielbasa in the apricot BBQ glaze, I like to take the extra step of frying it in butter first. This gives the kielbasa a nice, lightly browned outer layer and it also allows a lot of excess grease to be released. It’s best to drain the extra grease and let your kielbasa rest on some paper towels while you prepare the glaze.
PREPARING THE GLAZE
You’ll use the same skillet you used to fry your kielbasa for the glaze. Less dishes! Simply add the apricot preserves and the BBQ sauce to the skillet. Then, heat on medium until the preserves melt completely into the BBQ sauce creating a bubbling, but smooth mixture. You can then add your fried kielbasa back to the skillet and stir until it’s generously coated with the apricot BBQ glaze. Simple as that!
APRICOT BBQ KIELBASA APPETIZERS
You can definitely serve these straight from the skillet. But, for parties or events such as the Superbowl, I love serving these up on a big platter with toothpicks. It gives them that final appetizer appeal and makes it easier for guests to grab them in passing as they enjoy the game.
